The tournament joins the US and Aussie Opens in implementing replay technology.
Replay systems will be launched at Wimbledon this year.
Athletes will gain the ability to challenge specific decisions made by the chair umpire, following the practice already in use at each of the US Open and the Aussie major.
This innovation will be accessible on the main stadium and Court One for the duration of the Championships and on the remaining featured courts when they are staging singles contests.
This step follows just a season following the AELTC rolled out ELC, which brought an end to the 147-year role of line judges.
What Can Be Reviewed?
Players cannot to challenge the call of the electronic line calling, but they can request the official to re-examine other decisions, such as:
- If a tennis ball has double-bounced.
- If a shot made contact with an rival's racket or person during play.
- Possible interference at the conclusion of a point.
Importantly, there will be an unlimited number on the amount of challenges a player can ask for.
A Recent Example
An illustrative incident took place in Indian Wells recently, where a top player used the review system against his opponent.
The British player conceded it was a tough situation for the official, but believed his rival had "played the rules quite well."
The umpire viewed a replay and determined Draper was guilty of interference, awarding the rally to Medvedev.
Wider Implementation
This technology are not new for major tournaments. It was adopted at the US Open for two years and the Australian Open since 2025.
Furthermore, it is becoming more common on the WTA circuit, and by next season the men's ATP Tour plans to have the system in place at all of its tournaments.
Further Updates
Another change at The Championships this year will be the introduction of visual indicators on displays to support the verbal announcements from the ELC system.
This solves situations where fans have occasionally been uncertain if a ball was in or out.
In other news, with precisely a century of days to go until the start of the tournament, the AELTC have further announced an increase in daily capacity at the qualifiers in the qualifying venue.
